Preoperative Medications
Medications which you take preoperatively may have important effects on your anaesthesia and surgery. Specific examples include blood pressure medications, and diabetes medications. It is important that you let your anaesthetist know of any medications you take prior to surgery.
Pre-existing Medical Conditions
If you suffer from other illnesses, it is important to let your Anaesthetist know , as these conditions may affect the type of anaesthesia which is most suitable for your surgery. Examples of some important conditions include heart disease, diabetes , and asthma.
Postoperative Pain Relief
Your anaesthetist will ensure you are prescribed adequate postoperative pain relief. They will be able to advise you of the types of medications to be used for pain relief and some of the possible side effects.
